CHAPLAINS CODE OF ETHICS
GENERAL PRINCIPLES AND VALUES
1. Chaplains shall demonstrate commitment through relationships with other members, those served, colleagues and through conduct in their professional/pastoral roles.
2. Chaplains possess dignity and worth. The whole Bible is the Moral Standards of the Chaplains.
3. The spiritual dimension of the Chaplains is an essential part for an individual’s striving for health, wholeness and meaning in life.
ETHICAL STANDARDS OF THE OFFICE OF THE CITY CHAPLAIN (OCC)
1. The OCC shall promote integrity, competence, respect for the dignity of all persons, and collegiality among its members.
2. The OCC shall serve without discrimination regardless of race, ethnicity, sexual orientation, gender, age, disability, religions or faith group.
3. The OCC will, in conformity to its rules, provide structures and resources to maintain its standards and promote its moral values programs.
4. The OCC shall follow its standards, policies, and processes in holding itself and its members shall be accountable to its standards for competency and ethical behavior.
ETHICAL STANDARDS OF THE CHAPLAINS
1. Chaplains must follow the Ethical Standards of the Office of the City Chaplain (OCC).
2. Chaplains shall demonstrate respect for the opinions, beliefs and professional endeavors of other members, their colleagues and those with whom they have contact in their professional role as Chaplain.
3. Chaplains shall affirm the religious and spiritual freedom of all persons and refrain from imposing doctrinal positions or spiritual practices on persons whom they encounter in their professional role as chaplains.
4. Chaplains shall be accountable for maintaining their integrity as Pastors/Ministers. Such as, they will not use their position for personal gain and they shall refrain from emotional, financial, sexual or any other form of exploitation.
5. Chaplains shall respect the privacy of all persons.
6. Chaplains shall conduct themselves with integrity in all their professional relationships including those whom they serve, their colleagues and the OCC.
7. Chaplains shall accurately represent their professional qualifications and affiliations.
8. Chaplains shall respond with honesty and timeliness or punctuality.
9. Chaplains shall conform to the OCC’s expectations of competency.
10. Chaplains shall maintain an active relationship and good standing within the inter-faith communities.
11. Chaplains shall pursue ongoing personal growth and professional development in theology, spirituality, pastoral/ministerial skills, and other areas, which enhance their professional proficiency.
12. Chaplains shall establish and maintain inter-professional relationships to foster partnerships and inter-disciplinary cooperation.
